Pedn Olva, St Ives
Jutting out on blue-black granite rocks above St Ives harbour, Pedn Olva Hotel is one of the most photographed hotels in Cornwall. Its Cornish name translates to “on the headland,” and it sits on a rocky promontory between the harbour and Porthminster Beach, once the site of a copper mine, some 30 feet above the sea.
The St Austell Brewery-owned hotel is a short, level walk from St Ives‘ cobbled streets, galleries, and railway station, making it an easy base for exploring the town without giving up its own private slice of coastline.
Accommodation
The hotel’s 30 individually decorated rooms lean into their setting, with driftwood trims, local artwork, and large windows that make the most of the sea views.
- Sea View Rooms: Coastal-themed rooms with plush bedding and windows onto St Ives Bay and the harbour beyond.
- Superior & Signature Rooms: Larger rooms with the best of the hotel’s panoramic outlooks over the water.
- Family Rooms: A small number of family-friendly options, some of which are dog-friendly for guests travelling with canine companions.
Dining & Wellness
Between the restaurant, bar, and one of St Ives’ few outdoor swimming pools, Pedn Olva is as much a destination for locals as it is for guests staying overnight.
- The Lookout Restaurant: Floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace for al fresco dining, serving Cornish cuisine crafted from fresh, locally sourced produce.
- The Bar: A cosy spot for one of St Austell Brewery’s award-winning beers, with granite open fires for watching winter storms roll in.
- Outdoor Heated Pool: A rare feature among St Ives hotels, with sun-drenched terraces alongside for watching dolphins and seals in the bay.
