Marazion Beach is a broad stretch of sand backed by the village of Marazion, looking straight out across Mount’s Bay to St Michael’s Mount and its causeway. At low tide a granite causeway, once used by pilgrims, links the beach to the island, while at high tide small boats ferry visitors across instead. West of the village the sand continues all the way toward Penzance, and to the east there is a quieter stretch of rockier beach as well.
The beach is considered safe for swimming, though signs warn of motorised watercraft and submerged objects in places, so it is worth keeping an eye out. A walk along the dunes tends to turn up quieter spots away from the busiest part of the beach, and there are rock pools to explore around Chapel Rock and the harbour. Marazion is also popular for windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing and jet skiing, helped by a windsurfing school based at the far end of the beach, though conditions can turn genuinely windy here.
RNLI lifeguards patrol through the main summer weeks, roughly from early July to early September, though it is worth checking current year dates before relying on this. A seasonal dog ban applies from the first of July to the end of August, with dogs kept off the beach between 10am and 6pm during that period.
Facilities include shops and cafes in the village, toilets, and a play park just above the beach. Access is good in places, with slipways suitable for wheelchairs at the Folly Field and Kings Road car parks, while the quieter eastern beach is reached down steeper steps from Leys Lane. Parking is available at Folly Field, Kings Road, and a scattering of smaller car parks along the seafront.
