Longrock sits roughly halfway between Penzance and Marazion, and is popular with locals largely because it is the easiest stretch of sand to reach straight from town, helped by a decent sized car park right on the beach. The best section is generally reckoned to be on the Marazion side of the car park, where a wall gives some shelter from the wind and the sand above the tideline is a little finer.
Swimming here is notably safe, with the water staying shallow for a long way out, which also makes the beach a popular spot for windsurfing. There are wide, far reaching views across Mount’s Bay to St Michael’s Mount throughout. Marazion’s RNLI lifeguards keep an eye on the eastern end of the beach through the summer months.
Longrock is one of the few stretches of coast near Penzance that is dog friendly all year round, at least on the Penzance side of the car park and the level crossing. Toward the Marazion end, a seasonal restriction applies during July and August, with dogs kept off that section between 10am and 6pm, though welcome there outside those hours and months. Anyone who would rather avoid dogs altogether is better off heading toward the Marazion end in peak season.
Facilities are modest, with a shop and two pubs a five minute walk away in Longrock village. Parking is available both in the village and right by the beach, though it fills quickly in summer.
