Tintagel
Tintagel is a world-famous village set atop the wild and fractured cliffs of North Cornwall, synonymous with the enduring legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
The site is dominated by the dramatic ruins of Tintagel Castle, a medieval fortress built in the 13th century by Richard, Earl of Cornwall, on the site of a much earlier and highly significant Dark Age trading post. Historically, the area was a vital Mediterranean link for luxury goods, as evidenced by the vast quantities of high-status pottery discovered across the island’s plateau.
Today, the village is a major cultural landmark managed by English Heritage, featuring the spectacular cantilevered footbridge that connects the mainland to the rugged island for the first time in centuries. Visitors are drawn to the mystical atmosphere of Merlin’s Cave at the base of the cliffs, the beautifully preserved 14th-century Old Post Office, and the breathtaking coastal paths that offer some of the most atmospheric views in the British Isles.
