Sennen is where the land runs out. Perched at the very tip of Cornwall, it offers some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the UK. But it’s not just about the views; Sennen Cove is a world-class surf destination with a vibrant, artistic community that thrives at the edge of the Atlantic.

From catching your first wave to exploring a gallery housed in a 19th-century capstan house, here is our curated guide to the best activities in Sennen.

Our Top Picks

These three experiences define the unique character of the cove and are essential for any visitor.

1. Sennen Cove Beach (Whitesands Bay)

The main draw is undoubtedly the beach. Sennen Cove Beach is a mile-long crescent of blindingly white sand and turquoise water.

  • The Surf: It is one of the most consistent surf spots in the country. The swell here is legendary, but on calm days, the water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming (though it is chilly!).
  • The Vibe: Even in the height of summer, you can usually find space if you walk towards the far end. It’s family-friendly, with lifeguards patrolling during the season.

2. Learn to Surf

You can’t come to Sennen without getting wet. There are two excellent surf schools right on the beach.

  • The Schools: Sennen Surfing Centre and Smart Surf School both offer top-tier coaching for all abilities. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your cutback, the instructors here are some of the best in Cornwall.
  • The Conditions: The beach break is generally safe for learners, but always listen to the instructors as the currents can be strong.

3. Walk to Land’s End

Skip the expensive car park at the landmark itself and walk there from Sennen. The coastal path offers stunning views that you miss by driving.

  • The Route: It’s a relatively easy 1-mile walk along the cliffs. On the way, look out for the wreck of the RMS Mulheim, a German cargo ship that ran aground in 2003 and can still be seen in the cove below.
  • The Destination: You arrive right at the famous signpost at Land’s End. Grab a photo, watch the waves crash against the Longships Lighthouse, and then head back to Sennen for a pint.

Culture & History

  • Roundhouse & Capstan Gallery: Located in an iconic circular building near the slipway, the Roundhouse & Capstan Gallery is a must-visit. It was originally built to house a huge winching capstan for fishing boats. Today, it showcases incredible Cornish art, jewellery, and ceramics spread over two floors.
  • RNLI Lifeboat Station: Sennen has a proud history of saving lives at sea. The Lifeboat Station is often open to visitors. Seeing the massive Tamar-class lifeboat up close is a humbling reminder of the power of the ocean.

A Hidden Gem

Gwynver Beach

If the main beach is too busy, head north to its wilder sister, Gwynver Beach.

  • The Access: It’s reached by a steep flight of steps from the cliffs above, which keeps the crowds away.
  • The Appeal: It is dog-friendly all year round (unlike the main beach) and feels much more rugged and secluded. It’s a favourite spot for local surfers escaping the surf schools.

Parking Tips

  • Beach Car Park: The main car park (TR19 7DG) is right on the seafront but fills up by 10am in summer.
  • Top Car Park: There is a large overflow car park at the top of the hill. It’s a steep walk down (and back up!), but the views are incredible.
  • Gwynver: There is a small honesty-box car park on the cliff above Gwynver if you want to bypass Sennen entirely.
