Parking in Portreath is straightforward but competitive. The village has one primary car park right on the seafront which handles the vast majority of visitors. If this is full, you are often left with a steep walk from the residential streets on the valley sides.
The harbour area itself is strictly working/private, so always head for the beach car park first. If that fails, head up the hill towards the North Cliffs for scenic laybys.
Our Top Picks
Your options here are limited, so timing is everything.
- Best for Beach & Surf (The Main Hub): Portreath Beach Car Park. The only large public car park in the village. It overlooks the beach and is perfect for families and surfers carrying gear.
- Best for Free Parking (Limited): Tregea Hill / Beach Road. There are some on-street bays along the roads flanking the valley, but these are often taken by residents or early risers.
- Best for Views (Overflow): Tehidy North Cliffs. If the village is gridlocked, drive up the hill towards Hayle. The laybys on the North Cliffs offer free parking and a stunning (steep) coastal walk back down.
The Main Beach Car Park
This is the “default” location for 90% of visitors. It is Council-run and situated directly behind the beach and the Surf Life Saving Club.
Portreath Beach Car Park
Postcode: TR16 4NN
Capacity: ~125 spaces
Best For: Direct beach access. You can practically fall out of your car onto the sand. It serves the Atlantic Beach Cafe and the pubs nearby.
Note: It uses the ‘JustPark’ app. Spaces at the front offer a view of the waves, perfect for storm watching in winter. No overnight sleeping is permitted.

Harbour & Street Parking
Portreath Harbour: The harbour quays are working areas and parking is strictly restricted for members of the Portreath Harbour Association or permit holders. Do not block the slipways or boat storage areas.
On-Street Options
Postcode: TR16 4LB (Approx)
Capacity: Very Limited
Best For: Quick stops or winter visits. Roads like Tregea Hill (the steep road going up the east side) and Beach Road sometimes have spaces, but they are narrow. Always check for yellow lines and respect local driveways.
Nearby Scenic Alternatives
Tehidy Country Park (North Cliffs)
Postcode: TR14 0TW (Approx)
Capacity: Laybys / Small Car Parks
Best For: Walkers. The “North Cliffs” car parks are free and offer some of the most dramatic views in Cornwall. You can park here and walk the South West Coast Path down into Portreath (approx 1 mile), but be prepared for a steep climb back up.
