Our Top Picks

These three properties offer the most authentic and comfortable stays in and around the village.

1. The Slipway (Best for Harbour Location)

Built in 1527, this Grade II listed building is as central as it gets. It sits right opposite the lifeboat station at the bottom of the village.

  • The Vibe: Historic and nautical. With its low ceilings and creaky floors, it feels incredibly authentic.
  • The Stay: It operates as a B&B with a popular seafood restaurant downstairs. You can step out of the front door directly onto the harbour beach at low tide.
  • Good to Know: Being at the bottom of the valley, you have to carry your bags down from the car park, but the location is worth the effort.

2. Port Gaverne Hotel (Best Historic Inn)

Technically located in the next cove along (a 5-minute easy walk from Port Isaac), this 17th-century inn offers a quieter, more relaxed alternative to the main village.

  • The Vibe: A proper Cornish inn. It has won countless awards for its pub food and hospitality. It feels timeless and cosy.
  • The Stay: The rooms are boutique-style but retain their character. It is perfect if you want to be close to the action but away from the main tourist crowds.

3. The Old School Hotel (Best for Views)

Perched on the cliff edge overlooking the harbour, this building is famous as the schoolhouse in Doc Martin.

  • The Vibe: Dramatic and scenic. Because it sits high up, the views down into the harbour and out to sea are unmatched.
  • The Stay: It offers hotel rooms and suites. It is slightly more accessible by car than the properties down in the harbour bowl.

Luxury & Boutique

  • Outlaw’s Coastal Retreats: Chef Nathan Outlaw offers luxury self-catering apartments and a guest house (formerly the Stargazy Inn). If you are coming for the food, staying here completes the experience. They are finished to a very high standard.
  • The Terrace Tea Room & Bed and Breakfast: Located on the coastal path side of the village, this is a charming spot known for its incredible breakfast views. It’s a great mid-range option with friendly hosts.

Self-Catering Cottages

Most accommodation in Port Isaac consists of private holiday cottages. Key agencies to check include:

  • John Bray Cornish Holidays: The leading agency for North Cornwall. They manage many of the white-washed cottages you see in the TV series.
  • Latitude 50: Look here for high-end, modern properties, usually located just outside the village centre with parking and sea views.

Parking & Logistics

  • The Driving Ban: We cannot stress this enough—do not try to drive down into the old village unless you have a guaranteed parking space and a small car. The streets are notoriously narrow and reversing is a nightmare.
  • Pack Light: If you are staying in the harbour (like at The Slipway), be prepared to walk your luggage down the hill from the main car park. Wheeled suitcases are essential!
