Mullion

Mullion

Mullion is the largest village on the Lizard Peninsula, serving as a vibrant gateway to some of Cornwall’s most dramatic coastal scenery.

This historic settlement is characterized by its traditional serpentine stone cottages and the 13th-century Church of St Mellanus, famous for its intricate medieval woodcarvings.

A short distance from the village centre lies Mullion Cove, a picturesque working harbour protected by massive Victorian stone piers that were built to withstand the relentless power of the Atlantic.

Managed by the National Trust, the area is a haven for geology and wildlife enthusiasts; the offshore Mullion Island provides a sanctuary for large colonies of seabirds, while the nearby Poldhu Cove is celebrated as the site of Guglielmo Marconi’s first transatlantic radio transmission in 1901.
