The Eden Project
Nestled in a reclaimed china clay pit near St Austell, the Eden Project is much more than a botanical garden; it is a dramatic global garden and an educational charity housed within iconic, bubble-like biomes.
Since opening in 2001, it has become one of Cornwall’s most famous landmarks, showcasing the vital relationship between plants and people. From the humid heat of the world’s largest indoor rainforest to the fragrant landscapes of the Mediterranean,
Eden offers an immersive journey through the Earth’s diverse climates and cultures.
The Biomes & Gardens
The Eden Project is divided into distinct zones, each offering a unique sensory experience and a wealth of natural wonders.
- Rainforest Biome: Step into the tropics and explore the four main rainforest regions of the world. Walk among towering trees, experience the humidity of a jungle, and traverse the Canopy Walkway for a bird’s-eye view of the forest floor.
- Mediterranean Biome: Wander through the landscapes of South Africa, California, and Western Australia. This biome is filled with olive groves, lemon trees, and vibrant floral displays, all under a temperate, sun-drenched climate.
- Outdoor Gardens: The “pit” itself is a masterpiece of landscape architecture, featuring miles of paths that wind through tea plantations, vegetable gardens, and contemporary art installations that tell the story of our changing climate.
- The Core: An innovative education centre based on Fibonacci numbers, housing “Seed,” an impressive 70-tonne granite sculpture, and various interactive exhibits.
Experiences & Dining
Eden is a year-round destination with activities that change with the seasons.
- Adventure: For those seeking a thrill, the site is home to “Hangloose Adventure,” featuring England’s longest and fastest zip wire which soars over the biomes.
- Seasonal Events: From the Eden Sessions (summer concerts) to the glittering ice rink in winter, the project hosts a rotating calendar of world-class events.
- Sustainable Dining: Multiple eateries across the site, including the Mediterranean Kitchen and the Biome Kitchen, serve ethical, locally sourced food that reflects the plants grown on-site.

Accessibility
The Eden Project is designed to be accessible to all. The site features a comprehensive network of step-free paths, and a dedicated park-and-ride bus service operates from the car parks to the visitor centre.
Manual wheelchairs and powered mobility scooters are available for hire (booking in advance is highly recommended). The Biomes feature wide, level paths, though the Rainforest Biome does contain some steeper gradients due to its vertical design.
Sensory maps and quiet spaces are also available for visitors with neurodiverse needs. Accessible toilets and Changing Places facilities are located throughout the site.
