We visited St Michaels Resort & Spa on 08/10/25

My family treated my wife Serena to a birthday spa day at St Michaels Resort & Spa in Falmouth and I was more than happy to share in the experience.

The package included full access to the spa, a Rhassoul (steam chamber) experience, and lunch for two, making it the perfect relaxing day by the sea. Located just opposite Gyllyngvase Beach, St Michaels is one of Cornwall’s most luxurious spa resorts, and it certainly lived up to its reputation.

We began our day with a two-hour hydrothermal spa session, making the most of every facility on offer, from the largest hydrotherapy pool in the South West to the glass-fronted bio-sauna, Cornish Sea Salt steam room, rainforest steam room, and experience showers.

We also enjoyed the outdoor cedar hot tub, Finnish barrel sauna, and both poolside and deep relaxation lounges. Next came our Rhassoul experience, a wonderfully indulgent ritual where we applied a body scrub and Moroccan mud before entering the steam chamber.

After rinsing off under a soothing shower, we finished with a rich body lotion and spent a few minutes unwinding again on the massage couches in the deep relaxation room. By this point, we were in a completely relaxed state so we could enjoy our two-course lunch with champagne in the ‘Nourish’ restaurant.

We arrived just before 3pm, when the atmosphere was calm and peaceful, which suited our mood perfectly. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and the ideal end to a wonderfully relaxing day.

We ordered the following: Small Plates

  • Chorizo picante, roasted pimentón, cider glaze – £9.00
  • We shared this but could have easily eaten one each

Mains

  • Smash burger, gouda, relish, iceberg, onion, beef tomato, gherkin, fries – £18.00
  • BBQ pork belly brioche, apple and fennel slaw, cider aioli, fries – £17.00

Dessert:

  • Chocolate & sea salt tart, clotted cream (shared) £9.00

Drinks:

  • 2 glasses of champagne – assuming this was Camel Valley Brut, UK – £26.00?
  • Tap water

The Bill:

  • Included in the voucher but would have come to approx – £79.00

Thoughts:

The chorizo starter was absolutely delicious, rich, smoky, and full of flavour. We’d never tried roasted pimentón before, and it was a real treat, pairing perfectly with the chorizo. We even saved some of the glaze to dip our fries and bread into once the mains arrived.

I’m a big fan of pork belly, so my choice was an easy one, and I wasn’t disappointed, it was tender, tasty, and beautifully cooked. Serena went for the burger, which she really enjoyed as well. We asked for the usual condiments, salt, pepper, ketchup, and mayonnaise and tucked in.

If I had to mention one minor downside, it would be the portion size of the fries. As you’ll see from the photos, it was a fairly small serving. It was just enough for us, but considering the mains are around £17–£18, a few extra fries wouldn’t go amiss.

To finish, we shared the chocolate and sea salt tart, which was the perfect end to the meal, rich, indulgent, and perfectly balanced. We left feeling full, relaxed, and very happy after what had been a thoroughly enjoyable day.

It’s surprising to see that TripAdvisor reviews are a little mixed, because apart from the small portion of fries, we couldn’t fault a thing, the food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. And of course, it’s always that bit nicer when you don’t have to pay for it!
