In Newlyn, the golden rule is to give way to the fish trucks. The village centres around the harbour, and while visitors are welcome, the commercial operations take priority. The main piers (like Mary Williams Pier) are strictly restricted zones.
For most visitors, the best strategy is to park in the Council-run car parks set back from the harbour or use the designated visitor areas at Sandy Cove. Newlyn is also the smartest place to park if you are visiting Mousehole, as the mile-long coastal walk is flat and stunning.
Our Top Picks
Your choice depends on whether you are here for a meal, a walk, or just to watch the boats.
- Best for Walking to Mousehole: St Peter’s Hill Car Park. A long-stay car park located on the hill leading out towards Mousehole. It is the perfect starting point for the coastal path.
- Best for Dinner & Cinema: Duke Street Car Park. Located right in the centre of the village, just behind the bridge. It is ideal for the Newlyn Filmhouse or the local seafood restaurants.
- Best for Harbour Views: Sandy Cove (Newlyn Harbour). Run by the Harbour Commissioners. It sits on the foreshore and offers incredible views across the bay to St Michael’s Mount.
Village & Council Parking
These are the two main Cornwall Council car parks. They use the ‘JustPark’ app and are well-signposted.

Sandy Cove
Postcode: TR18 5LQ
Capacity: Moderate
Best For: Being right by the water. Located at the “Old Harbour” end (towards Penzance).
Important: This is a Pay & Display area. Make sure you do not park in areas marked for fishermen’s storage or gear. The main commercial piers (Mary Williams and North Pier) are often closed to the public—watch for the red restricted zone signs.
