This is St Ives at its most vibrant. The town buzzes with energy, the beaches look like the Caribbean, and the harbour is filled with boats. It is the peak family season.
Weather & Atmosphere
- What to expect: Hopefully sunny and warm, though sea breezes keep it comfortable.
- Average Temps: 16°C – 20°C (often feels warmer in the sun).
- Vibe: Bustling, energetic, and festive.
Attractions & Dining
- Open: Everything is open. Booking restaurants 2–4 weeks in advance is highly recommended.
- Events: The St Ives September Festival technically starts in late summer (September), but the buildup begins in August. Look out for open-air theatre and live music in the harbour.
- Shopping: Late-night shopping often happens on varying days in peak season; the cobbled streets of Fore Street are packed with independent makers.

Walks & Beaches
- Beaches: Porthmeor is the hub for surfing; Porthminster is calmer for swimming.
- Dog Bans: Strict bans are in force on major beaches (usually 10am – 6pm).
Tip: Bamaluz Beach and Lambeth Walk (low tide only) are dog-friendly year-round if you need a spot for the pup. - Video Opportunity: Sunset over Porthmeor Beach is world-class. The light hits the Tate building beautifully.
Transport & Parking
- Traffic Warning: Driving through town is very difficult.
- Park & Ride: We strongly recommend using the St Erth Park & Ride (View Map). The train ride into St Ives is one of the most scenic in the UK and drops you right at Porthminster Beach, avoiding the stress of full car parks.
- Parking: If you must drive, arrive at Trenwith Car Park before 9:30am.
