A small historic stone building perched on the headland, once used by a lookout known as the “huer”, who watched for shoals of pilchards approaching the coast and shouted down to alert the fishing boats waiting below.

The Headland Hotel sits on Towan Headland overlooking Fistral Beach, a striking Victorian building that’s become a landmark in its own right, and one of the best vantage points for watching the Cribbar when it’s breaking.

A public green space in the centre of Newquay, close to the harbour, regularly used for markets, fairs, and family events throughout the year.
Where are the best cliff-top views?
Towan Headland, right by the Huer’s Hut, gives sweeping views over Fistral Beach and the Cribbar reef. Pentire Headland on the other side of town is just as rewarding for views back over the Gannel Estuary.
Can I walk the South West Coast Path from Newquay?
Yes, the Coast Path runs directly through Newquay, easily picked up from the headlands on either side of town without needing to drive anywhere first.

What prehistoric sites are nearby?
Trevelgue Head, just north of the town near Porth, has evidence of settlement stretching back to the Iron Age, with an old cliff-castle site occupied continuously for centuries. The wider Barrowfields area also holds prehistoric burial mounds.
What manor houses are near Newquay?
Trerice, a National Trust Elizabethan manor house, is the best known, a short drive from town and well worth the trip for its gardens and period interiors.

A dramatic stretch of coastline with towering rock stacks, a short drive north of Newquay near Mawgan Porth, one of the most photographed spots on this part of the coast.
